Pig Kissing…And Other Free Fundraisers!
Hello there Parents,Teachers, PTAs and Student Counsels!
We know you’ve been tasked with an important and sometimes difficult job: Fundraising.
But how do you get kids excited about bringing in their recyclable electronics?
Don’t worry, Cartridges for Kids® has some great ideas that will get your students excited about recycling with little or no cost. All they take is some willing participants……. and perhaps a clean, friendly pig.
Kiss a Pig- Schools have used this incentive for decades. What kid wouldn’t want to see their Principal or Teacher smooch a pig?
All you need is the promise from a Principal that if the students bring in a certain number of items in an allotted time frame, they will kiss a pig in front of the entire school (Picture evidence of the event is a must).
Cost: Whatever the current pig-rental rate is. Unless one of your students already has one!
Duct Tape Prize- Each student gets an allotment of duct tape for every recyclable item brought in. Let the kids use their duct tape to secure their principle or another (preferably willing) teacher to a wall. The more items a student brings in, the more tape they get, ensuring no one gets sent to the principal’s office for at least as long as it takes him/her to break free….
Cost: Several rolls of Duct Tape (go name brand – in our experience the cheap stuff doesn’t stick to school walls!).
Hair is free and grows back (usually)- Having a hard time finding a pig in your city? Well this fundraiser involves the same principle (and Principal). If the students bring in a certain amount of items the Principal or teacher agrees to shave or dye their hair a ridiculous color.
Cost: Razor/ one box of semi-permanent hot pink hair dye.
There’s a plethora of ideas to choose from and all it takes is a principal or teacher with an adventurous side and a sense of humor! From putting on a grass skirt and dancing the Hula to offering a “Get out of Detention Free” card to a winning student, CFK schools all over the country have come up with awesome and hilarious fundraising incentives that cost little or no money! You don’t have to pay for a pizza party or buy your students prizes to get them excited about recycling!
We want to hear about your fundraising ideas! What did your school do to get motivated about recycling? Send your ideas, stories and pictures of any pig-kissing or hula dancing to:
We may even put your ideas on our blog!
Everyone Loves a Little Bonus…
The school year is in full swing now, and we hope your fundraising is too! Now that you’ve started collecting your recyclables and boxing them up, we want to remind you of an awesome new opportunity to earn extra CA$H!
Cartridges for Kids® is so thankful for your participation, we thought we’d reward you for all your hard work! This year we’re excited to announce a brand new promotion.
Here’s how it works: For every $150 in qualifying items your school or organization sends in a month, you will automatically receive an extra $25!
There’s no need to track it, and you don’t need to sign up- we’ll do all the work for you! All you have to do is make sure you send in your items before the end of the month (remember to allow a few days leeway for shipping and processing).
Want to know something else cool? You can do it once a month for the whole year if you want. That gives you the potential to earn an extra $300 this year alone!
We here at CFK truly hope everyone takes advantage of this opportunity, and we want it to be easy for you. That’s why there is no need to sign up or track your items. Just start sending in your boxes and we’ll do the rest!
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions- we’re here to help! You can contact CFK by calling 1(800) 420-0235 or emailing your questions to cfkprogram@wm.com.
We look forward to hearing from you, and we’re excited to keep recycling with you this year!
America Recycles Day is Almost Here!
Did you know America has a National Recycling Day?
Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on November 15th to celebrate what can happen if we all work together to make recycling bigger and better in the United States. Recycling events large and small are popping up all over the country. Some are being organized by companies like Waste Management, Johnson& Johnson and Pepsico, but others are being put together by people and communities who are just as excited to help further the recycling cause.
Cartridges for Kids® (CFK) is excited to get involved in this spectacular day, and we want you to get involved too! Visit Americarecyclesday. org to find out more about events being hosted in your area, or get help hosting your own event. Sign the Recycling pledge and find some great tips and toolkits to help make recycling easy and fun in your school and community!
Now that you know about this terrific cause, how about getting involved while earning cash for your school/organization? Here’s where CFK comes in!
Most recycling events focus on paper, plastic and glass products. While we know how important these things are to recycle, what about the items that you can’t just drop in a green recycle bin and place on your sidewalk? With the increasing amout of technology in our world, electronics recycling or eCycling, is more important that ever- and CFK is an expert on the subject! We want to support America Recycles Day by spreading the word that ecycling is just as important as recycling.
We know you’ve been working hard getting the word out about our program and collecting cellphones and cartridges galore for us to recycle, but what if we told you we know how to help you be even MORE successful?
We’re talking about a collection drive! America Recycles Day is a great opportunity for you to get the word out in your school and community about your involvement with Cartridges for Kids and a CFK collection drive is the perfect way to do it.
The best part? It’s really easy! A drive can be as big or as small as you want it to be and CFK will provide the materials to get you started. Just click here to order everything you need to kick-off a cellphone and/or cartridge collection drive at your school. Just be sure to order your materials soon- we want you to be able to have your drive all planned out in time for America Recycles Day on November 15th.
If you aren’t sure how to promote your Collection Drive, visit Ways to Grow to find tons of great ideas and templates including our most popular project- the Recycle Tree.
We want to hear from you too! Do you have an awesome new idea about how to promote ecycling at your school? Is your Recycle Tree brag-worthy? Send us your ideas and pictures to cfkprogram@wm.com with the subject line “Our school loves CFK!” and we might post them here. We always love to hear about your success and creativity!
Good luck with your Collection Drives and we look forward to hearing from you!

Encourage Recycling with a Pumpkin Patch Idea…

It’s like a spin on our recycling tree idea….For each item brought in to be recycled you can give the child a cut out pumpkin to decorate and place on a wall. See pictures below of some very successful pumpkin patches and recycling trees!

Give a Little, Help A Lot
ImprovEverywhere gets it. They helped brighten this bell-ringer’s spirits with a little holiday cheer.
You can too. Give a little and help your school out A LOT. Spend a little extra time ringing your bells for CFK.
Hit the pavement. Here’s how:
Recruit business sponsors in your area
Post fliers on community bulletin boards
Bring fliers to your Chamber of Commerce, school district, grocery store and PTO meetings
Talk to your principal about making daily announcements at school
Talk to your friends, talk to your neighbors, get the conversation started!
A little goes a long way this time of year. Visit www.cfktoday.com/waystogrow.html for more ideas on how to work your recycling fundraiser this holiday season!
How to Collect and Earn More
They say too much of something can be a bad thing, but here at CFK, we’ve learned that you can never have too much recycling. The good news is that when you recycle more with CFK, you earn more!
How can you make your recycling program go from average to FANTASTIC?
We’ve put together a list of ways you can step it up. Some are very simple, like announcing your collection over the PA system. Others are more long-term, like asking businesses in your area to recycle on your behalf. But they’re all EASY, TRIED AND TRUE ways to increase your collection and your earnings!
THE MIRACLE LIST OF HOW TO DO MORE!
Try a few of them out and let us know how they go. If you have your own ideas of how to punch up your program, make sure to share them with us. We’ll put them here on our blog for everyone to see.
