Newsworthy news… from the front page of the Mansfield News-Mirror paper.
Anna May Daulton ES Principal Erwann Wilson and students ’saving the earth’ one cell phone, ink & toner cartridge, laptop, DVD, video game and digital camera at a time. In truth saying ‘one at a time’ seems silly after hearing they amassed nearly 400 items to be recycled in 2 weeks. Whoa! Nice job Anna May Daulton ES and parents.
Just think if every CFK participant put just a little, just a smidge, just a teeny tiny bit more effort in over a 2 week period, how many items we’d keep out of landfills.
Let me give you a little hint… OK, 400 items X number of participating schools = Hmm, (punching buttons on calculator) I’d say it would be in the multi-millions. Whew, let’s get to work.

We’d like to welcome you to share, not only the milkshake, but some of what makes your program great. Send us some of your more creative ideas so we can possibly share them with other participants in the CFK program. Be sure to send pics if they add to the story. We’ll keep the links up on the menu on the right side of the blog so you can send anytime.
We’re looking forward to some great submissions. I’m off to get a milkshake. Mmmmm.

Someone, somewhere, while zipping across the great cellular highway, was inspired to creativity. How can you blame them? The typical handheld cellular device, while functional, is usually just not pretty enough. What to do? Well, dress it up with some faux jewels like this ‘Rhinestone Ringer”.

From time to time we’re going to post some of the more, er, uh, interesting phones here that we get as part of our recycling program. We realize accessorizing your phone may delay your move to recycle it; but we hope that when the time has come to retire your Monet-esque device you send it our way.
The fine print: aesthetically improving your phone will most likely not add to the value when recycled. We do enjoy looking at them though.

We’d love to see some pics of what you do to make your program great. If you’d like to share your pics; and everybody knows it’s nice to share, send them to us here. We promise it won’t hurt.
Of course, we (Cartridges for Kids) will not distribute these images and will use them only with your permission.

Kiss a pig on the lips! That’s exactly what a coach at Sandford Middle School has agreed to do if the students collect 500 items to recycle. There are other terms of motivation (400 items the counselors are fed spinach baby food, 600 items and the asst. principal & coach get arrested and cuffed & the homeroom with the most cartridges gets to pie their teacher) but we couldn’t get past the “Puckering Pig” and the coach. Wonder who will enjoy the kiss more, the coach or pig? Uck! Hopefully the pig will be cuter than the one pictured above. At least cleaned up a little. We’ll know how it went by their Valentines Day assembly.
I can just see it now, you’ve finished your teaching degree at a college or university, you get your first interview, you’re all excited, and during the course of the interview they ask you… “Would you be willing to kiss a pig?”. Would you take the job? Hmmmm?
BTW: Thanks for the interesting story Cindy. We love this kinda stuff.

Put yo’ hands in the air…
Alright people in da house. Cup yo’ hands over your mouth.
Go like this…Boom, Boom, Cha! Boom, Boom, Cha! (Repeat)
You got it now.
begin rap:
We will, We will, recycle…
Sing it Yeah!
We will, We will, recycle…
Cartridges for Kids is a really cool thing
cause we got to keep our world nice and clean
we throw trash in the street
if you know what I mean
We gotta treat Mother Nature - Like she’s our queen
(Chorus)
We will, We will, recycle…
Sing it Yeah!
We will, We will, recycle…
iPods, Laptops, Cell Phones too
bring them into our great school
(pause)
Now that’s cool!
This first debuted over the PA at Holland ES and was performed by the 5th grade Student Council President; with a future in the rap industry we might add.

Once we heard this one we knew it had to be passed along. One of the schools participating in the Cartridges for Kids program got creative as a way to motivate students to collect items for recycling. As an incentive, each student received a 6 inch piece of duct tape for each item (Cell phone, ink & toner cartridge, PDAs, iPod, Laptop, DVD, Video game & Console and Digital camera) they brought in. Wait, if that wasn’t enough, there’s more. At the end of the collection drive they used the pieces of duct tape to tape the principal to the wall! Sorry, we don’t have a photo of the actual taping so we used the image above.
Note: this does not mean we think any principal is a Grinch.
