About

You recycle stuff with us…you get money!   It’s that simple.  Schools and Non-Profits can participate by sending us stuff* (shipping’s on our dime) and we send you a check.

What stuff you ask?  Items a lot of people throw away!  Can you believe it?  Cell Phones & PDAs,  Empty ink and toner cartridges,  DVDs that have been watched a billion times and you’re sick of,  Video Games and Consoles,  Laptops,  Digital Cameras (because a new and better one seems to come out every 6 months), GPS devices, Calculators, and even iPods (see comment about ‘new and better one’).  Did we mention by doing the above you’re helping the environment.  Nice little bonus.

Do you recycle regular phones and parts? If not, where?

That’s a tough one. We actually do accept larger amounts of regular phones, typically from businesses. If you only have a small quantity of say, home phones, you might be best to take them to a local recycling center. If you do have a large amount you can email us at support@cartridgesforkids.com.
    Thanks for recycling.

I am the person who receives the cartridges from the schools in Greensville County ,Virginia. I have been told that there are several types of cartridges that you do no accept. I do not want to waist the school’s money sending a cartridge you do not accept. Considering I am a volunteer, rather than my having to go through you list of OK cartridges for everyone, can you please send me a list of the the common cartridges you do not accept.
    Thank you

Thanks for addressing this. We’re glad you’re taking the time to sort out those cartridges that cannot be recycled. This helps us keep shipping costs down and allows us to pay you, the participant, more. I’ve forwarded this to one of our support staff and you should hear from them soon. In the meantime the collection lists at http://www.cartridgesforkids.com provide you with a list of the items we currently accept and how much they are worth to those participating.
    Thanks for recycling.

It is too bad that your flier does not lend itself to black and white printing. I can’t think of any school that can use color to promote anything.

Sheila, we get this from time to time. If you look on our Marketing page (http://www.cartridgesforkids.com/marketing.html); where the fliers exist for download, you should see a link to print a black and white flier. There is also mention at the bottom of the page to set you printer to print grayscale or black and white when printing the color flier. You should get a better, crisper, result. Hope this helps. If you do have additional questions or concerns please be sure to contact us. Thanks for recycling.

Do you collect cell phone accessories? For example, car chargers. If so is there any financial benefit to the school?

There is no monetary value for cell phone accessories, but if it is easier for you, then you may send them in.

I’m looking into a way for my son’s middle school to recycle AND earn some money. Is Cartridges for Kids such a way? If so, how much does each item pay (i.e., for a used cell phone, an ink cartidge, etc.)? Does CFK pay for recycling toner cartridges? Are all ink printer cartridges acceptable, or only certain brands, etc.?

Thanks for answering my questions (I couldn’t easily find the answers online or in the thin packet of information that was sent to me.

Will you take a small portable DVD player?

      Hello Lynn,
we cannot actually take a DVD player for recycling. If you go to our website, there are lists of all of the items we accept under where it says “collect” on the lower left-hand side of the screen.

Thank you for contacting us though, we appreciate your effort!

We have quite a few cartridges for you, but seem to have lost our representative. If you could email us with a new contact number, we would be happy to call them.

What is the business structure for Cartridges for Kids? Is it a for-profit organization or a non-profit? Either way is fine with me. I was just curious.

    Thx.

      Hello Dave G,

That is a great question! We are a for-profit organization, which allows us to provide free shipping and free program materials to our participants.

      Thank you for contacting us!
